Beit Zvi

Beit Zvi (Hebrew: בית צבי‎) is an acting school located in Ramat Gan, Israel.[1] Graduates of the school are much in demand in the Israeli theater world.[1]

History

Beit Zvi is the country's first theater school not affiliated with an established theater.[2] It was founded by Haim Gamzo.[1] Former director Gary Bilu established a theater for Beit Zvi graduates and mounted plays not put on by the repertory theaters.[1]

Beit Zvi offers a three-year program with an emphasis on acting in real productions.[1][2] Micah Lewensohn, appointed head of the school in 2009, is the former director of the Israel Festival.[1] Lewensohn plans to institute a BA degree and a program in television studies.[1]

Controversy

Despite its success as a drama school, Beit Zvi has been embroiled in scandals and there have been student complaints of mismanagement and productions at the expense of classes.[1] In 2006, Gary Bilu was acquitted on charges of sexually harassing two students.[3]
